Traditional Abstract Expressionism
The dominant trend in western painting throughout the 1950s began with a
handful of American artists later termed Abstract Expressionists. The style
was born out of the reaction to war.
Not meant to depict a "reality"
from the visible world.
Non-representational impressions
could express spiritual and emotional truths in the most direct way.
A spontaneous and physical
process in order to present an immediate response to emotion.
Revealed revolutionary spirit of
the artist and a break from traditional works.
Offered enormous fields of
color, which expressed both the spiritual and epic concerns of the time.
Create emotionally intense
imagery.
Addressed the great questions of
human existence.
Expressed the internal
psychological struggle, the external struggle of man against nature, the
spiritual quest for God –
Characterized by a strong
dependence on what appears to be accident and chance, but which is
actually highly planned.
Adopting a peaceful and
mystical-spiritual approach to a purely abstract image.
Usually there was no effort to
represent subject matter
The spontaneity of the artists'
approach to their work would draw from and release the creativity of their
unconscious minds.
Expressive method was often
considered as important as the painting itself.
Does not describe any one
particular style, but rather a general attitude; not all the work was
abstract, nor was it all expressive.
Morally loaded themes, often
heavyweight and tragic, on a grand scale.
Valued, above all, individuality
and spontaneous improvisation.
Conventional subjects and
styles, neither of which could adequately convey their new vision.
Drew their inspiration from all
directions.
Impose the artist's own
sensibility to the world's representation.
Substitutes to the visual object
reality his own image of this object,
Search of harmony and forms is
not as important as trying to achieve the highest. expression intensity
both from the aesthetic point of view and according to idea and human
critics.
Believe to the reality of his
own interior perception.

A LABOR OF LOVE |
|
The prophetic writings
that accompany the pieces are as life changing as the art. God
beckons the viewer to go that place of revelation that He has imparted
in each piece …there the Holy Spirit ministers it in a most personal
way. There in that place of revelation… in the privacy of their own
home, God works through the art and writing to minister His purpose
which for many is something that is better experienced alone with God. |
